JOHNNY APPLESEED CELEBRATED AT LOWER CAMPUS!

The students in Mrs. Ailinger's and Mrs. Magee's classroom celebrated Johnny Appleseed. They learned that Johnny was born in Massachusetts and that he loved people, animals, and God. Johnny Appleseed was celebrated throughout the curriculum. The children enjoyed listening to stories about Johnny and reciting poems, as well as singing songs. They played a Johnny Appleseed game, where they matched the letters in the word "apples." In math and science, the children learned the sequence of how apples grow and change. They participated in art activities where they drew a designated number of apples on a tree or in baskets. The children made apple prints, in order to show the "star" on the inside of an apple. They also made an apple bag puppet. The children tasted red, yellow, and green apples and made a graph showing which apple they liked the best. Finally, all of the children made a Johnny Appleseed hat. Johnny Appleseed wore a pot for a hat, which he used for cooking and to protect his head from the sun and the rain. It was an exciting way to celebrate the arrival of the Fall season!
